Blewitt Springs

This vineyard is located in the rolling hills of Blewitt Springs, an elevated area on the eastern boundary of McLaren Vale which grades into the base of the Adelaide Hills. The area has high natural rainfall (560-720 mm per year) with deep sandy soils. Our vines are positioned on rolling hills, up to 300 metres high, single wire trellised with minimal pruning to enable sheltered canopies to protect the grape bunches from raisoning. The distance from the ocean eases maritime influence whereas gully breezes cool the fruit which is harvested at night. The Grenache and Shiraz vines here were saved from the 1980’s vine pull scheme and age up to 70 and 50 years old respectively.

Vineyard on the Willunga plains

Our Willunga vineyard is located on the fertile plains between the Fleurieu Plains and the Sellicks Hills, McLaren Vale. The soils are fertile red loam over limestone, close to the Southern Ocean. The row orientation allows the hills and ocean breezes to moderate the summer temperatures. These climatic factors combine with the well draining, friable soils to produce typically robust, full flavoured grapes. Ideal canopy conditions allow for dappled light penetration to ensure maximum colour development and even ripening.

Our company philosophy is based on producing  Estate Wines as  all our wines are produced from grapes grown on our own vineyards. Because we grow a number of different grape varieties and have a range of microclimates with in our vineyards we are able to produce a range of different and interesting wines.

Our winemaking approach is based on the adage “quality starts in the vineyard”. Wine quality is affected by many factors but perhaps the most important is picking time. We carefully monitor all our blocks to determine grape maturity measuring sugar and acid levels but also tasting the berries for flavour maturity.    

We have a senior experienced winemaker and a winery with sufficient fermentation and storage capacity to enable us to process the annual grape production of  our vineyards. Our wine making  facilities include refrigeration units in order to pre-cool the musts and ferments. We also have invested in an air-conditioned bottle and barrel store that enables us to closely control the quality of our wines during production and maturation . We believe we are able to express the inherent qualities of Mclaren Vale grown grapes in our range of wines .
